The Fixturlaser NXA Pro has been selected as the laser shaft alignment tool to be used in the Industrial Mechanic Millwright competition at this year’s WorldSkills event, being held in Abu Dhabi on October 15-18.
WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, the world championship of skills, will have participants from 77 countries who will be competing in 51 different skills competitions. Skills range from 3D Digital Game Art to Hairdressing, and from Cooking to Welding. The Industrial Mechanic Millwright skill involves maintaining and repairing stationary industrial machinery, mechanical equipment, and automated and robotic systems in industrial plants and factories.
The WorldSkills Competition is held every two years and is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world that truly reflects global industry. The Competitors represent the best of their peers and are selected from skill competitions in WorldSkills Member countries and regions.
The Fixturlaser NXA Pro laser shaft alignment system was selected for the competition because of its extreme accuracy, ease of use and the capability to not only align rotating shafts, but also measure machines’ actual thermal growth. Thermal growth is the amount of change in a machine’s position as it goes from start-up temperature to full operating temperature.

I am looking for discussions/suggestions on the use of tapered pins when installing equipment. Once a piece of equipment is installed correctly does using tapered pins provide any improvement? Can a person rely on using the tapered pins the next time the equipment gets a bearing replaced and re-aligned?
Robert Thanks for your comment. See Stan Riddle’s blog regarding pinning machinery.
